The Museo Marinaro ( Marine Museum ) was founded in 1937 by the Camogliese Gio Bono Ferrari, (famous for his book “Trilogy if the Sail”), who gave the museum to the Hall as a present. The Museum was created for the purpose to prove how for years a little village of sailors, located on a desolated steep cliff, had been able to conquer the supremacy on the sea thanks to their ability in sailing as no one else had had.

At first the Museum was located in the Social Theatre, at that time dedicated to the Prince of Piemonte, the museum was unveiled “…Sunday, 24 th July 1938, Umberto Albini Genoa Prefect and Giuseppe Bozzo Podestà were both present”.

All Objects expose in the museum are presents gave by the Camogliesi families and they represents only a little portion of the sailing-ships which the Camogliesi owned in the years between the Napoleonic wars and the Second World War (1798-1940).

During the years the directors of the museum have always collect objects belonging only to the citizens of Camogli; for this reason the museum can be considered the museum of the city. Camogli history is seafaring for the most. Every sailors had been considered as heroes, every man had demonstrated to deserve the supremacy on the sea. Our thoughts go to Gio Bono Ferrari who persuaded many Camogliesi to bestow many of their objects which made possible the realization of the municipal museum.

During the 2 nd World War the museum was moved in a storehouse, and only in 1971 it was reorganized in a new site, which belongs to the hall. The Captains and naval machinists Society voted the member Captain Attilio Bertolotto as the new Director of the museum: thank to him d the other members' help the tradition of the town may continue.

The 6 th June 1971 it took place the unveil of the museum dedicated to G.B. Ferrari; the Ministry of the Trading Marine and the Mayor of Camogli Enrico De Gregori were the special guests. Director Bertolotto has to be remember for his ability on arrange with style all the objects and to have started the printing of the “Book of the Museum”, which is still continuing: in this way people can know the true story of the Camogliese siling-ships.

The actual President is Captain Pro Schiaffino, he had been pointed out by the members and nominated by the Mayor in April 1973.

Moreover in the museum it is possible to admire paintings of sailing-ships by Nicolas Camilleri of the ‘800century. Camilleri was born in Greece , he lived in Marsiglia and in his works he loved to represent vessels in the background of Malta , as the brig “Il Boschetto”. The museum owns 168 paintings. Visitors may also admire 412 rare photos as the shoot to the Bark “Mincio”.

In the museum there are also 146 models of sailing-ships, 101 naval tools such as: octants, sextants, steering compasses, barometers, chronometers etc., which were used on the ships led by Captains from Camogli. Those tools are considered the most interesting and traditional objects in the museum. There are 97 interesting and various founds, 393 precious documents such as licenses, honours etc., 130 navigation books belonging to the members of our Society. These books contain all the sailors' work life: their shipments, their travels and the name of the ships by which they had travelled. At last but not the least: 753 books about the marine world which allow our guests to know about our and about all the world Trading Marine History.
